Help
Set up VaultJot and find answers when something gets stuck.
Get started on iPhone
- Pick your Obsidian vault. On first launch, tap Choose your Obsidian vault and select its folder. Or tap Use internal storage for now and connect a vault later in Settings.
- Capture a note. Tap a topic card, type or use the keyboard's dictation, then tap Save.
- Find your notes. The note is saved as an
.mdfile in your vault. The list icon on a topic card shows that topic's notes.
Capture on Apple Watch
- Install the Watch app. If it isn't on your Watch yet, install VaultJot from the Watch app on your iPhone.
- Open the iPhone app once. It sends your topics to the Watch.
- Add the complication. Edit your watch face and choose VaultJot for quick access.
- Dictate. Pick a topic, speak, tap Done, then confirm with the check mark.
- Save taps (optional). In iPhone Settings under Apple Watch, set Default topic on Watch tap to skip the topic list, or turn on Skip review screen after dictation to save without confirming.
Frequently asked questions
Notes from my Apple Watch don't show up
Open the VaultJot iPhone app. It checks for waiting notes every time it opens. iOS may not wake the app in the background, especially after you force-quit it. If the Watch still shows notes as waiting, open VaultJot on the Watch and make sure the Watch is connected to your iPhone or the internet.
My topics or settings are missing on the Watch
In iPhone Settings under Apple Watch, tap Resync Watch. It sends your topics and Watch settings again. If the Watch is out of reach, they are delivered once it is back online.
Long dictations on the Watch get cut off
Apple Watch system dictation can stop during longer dictations. Keep dictations short, or split them into several notes.
Where does VaultJot store my notes?
In the vault folder you picked, as regular .md files. Without a connected vault, notes stay in the app's own iCloud space (or on the device if iCloud isn't available) and don't appear in Obsidian. Notes dictated on the Watch usually pass through your private iCloud on the way to your iPhone. The privacy policy explains this in detail.
Can I switch vaults or use a subfolder?
Yes. In Settings under Vault, tap Change vault or set a notes subfolder. Each topic can also have its own subfolder override.
Which vault locations work?
You can select any folder the iOS folder picker lets you choose. An iCloud Drive vault is the most direct setup. Other providers depend on how their Files integration handles folder access and writes. If writing fails, VaultJot shows a Vault write failed message.
Does VaultJot work with Obsidian Sync?
VaultJot only writes files into the folder you pick. It doesn't talk to Obsidian Sync. If your vault doesn't appear in the folder picker, check where Obsidian stores it on your iPhone.
Does VaultJot work without iCloud?
You can write to a folder on your device. Watch notes normally travel through your private iCloud. Without iCloud they fall back to the direct connection between Watch and iPhone.
